MEDICARE
Prescription Drug Coverage
Part D covers your medications. The plan with the lowest premium is very often not the cheapest plan for you.
How it works
Every Part D plan has its own list of covered drugs, and it sorts them into tiers that determine what you pay. Two plans can cover the same medication at wildly different prices — or one may not cover it at all. Advantage plans usually build this coverage in; with Original Medicare or a Supplement, you add it separately.
How to pick one
Not by the premium. Give us your medication list, the doses, and your pharmacy, and we will run it against the plans available to you and add up what you would actually spend across the year — premium, deductible, and copays together. That total is the only number that matters, and it frequently surprises people.
Check it every year
Drug lists and prices change every January, and so do your prescriptions. A plan that was the best choice last year can quietly become an expensive one. We review this with our clients each fall during Annual Enrollment, which runs October 15 to December 7 — that is part of our service, not an extra.
Don’t skip it just because you don’t take much
If you go without drug coverage when you are first eligible and pick it up later, a late penalty gets added to your premium and stays there. If you take nothing today, there are still inexpensive ways to stay covered. Ask us what makes sense.
Send us your medication list
We will tell you which plan costs you the least over a full year. Our help is free.
